Dark Rooms Celebrates World Premiere at Venice Immersive 2025

Potsdam, 21.08.2025: One of the latest projects Volucap worked on, Dark Rooms, an immersive documentary VR experience, is set to celebrate its world premiere at Venice Immersive – the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. The project explores personal stories of sexuality, self-discovery, and human connection, creating a safe, judgment-free space for audiences to engage with intimate narratives. Available in English, Danish, and German, the estimated duration of the full experience is 60 minutes including onboarding and offboarding.

The production merges documentary storytelling with interactive virtual environments, allowing users to explore often untold personal experiences. Through the lens of its protagonists, audiences witness journeys of sexual awakening, societal taboo confrontation, and self-acceptance—without the need for real-world participation.

A key innovation in Dark Rooms is the use of Volucap’s volumetric capture technology. By recording the protagonists in full 3D, the technology captures movements, expressions, and spatial presence, allowing the performances to be fully integrated into the VR environment. With over 3000 Megapixels of processing, 65+ Megapixels per camera, and a data rate of 132.48 GB/min, the result is an unprecedented level of realism and embodied presence that enhances storytelling and emotional impact.

The cast and creative team behind Dark Rooms are spread across Berlin (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Taipei City (Taiwan), bringing a truly international perspective to the project. The protagonists themselves contributed personal experiences and creative insights, shaping the narrative and deepening the authenticity of the journey.

With its innovative use of volumetric capture and immersive VR storytelling, Dark Rooms sets a new benchmark for documentary experiences in virtual reality, marking a unique moment in the intersection of technology and human narrative.
